It goes without saying that you need to understand French to get the most out of any release by the Malian-born, France-based rapper Oxmo Puccino, particularly as he is renowned for his word play and cinematic storytelling. But that shouldn’t stop non-French speakers from checking out his music; you can still enjoy his flow and the beats.

Roi sans carrosse, his six and latest album, hit the stores yesterday, and the man the French call the black Jacques Brel doesn’t disappoint. Our only minor gripe would be that 11 tracks seems a bit on the stingy side after the bumper-packed live album he treated us to a couple of years ago.

If you enjoy these two vids, then you won’t regret giving the rest of Roi sans carrosse a listen.
